- Sugarite Canyon State Park, one of Camping Life Magazine's Top Ten State Parks in the nation, features historic coal camps, abundant butterflies, two scenic lakes, fishing, camping, and spectacular vistas. 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Sugarite as a state park, but the park's history stretches back over 100 years.
- Capulin Volcano, a nearly perfectly-shaped cinder cone, was formed approximately 60,000 years ago, rising more than 1000 feet above the surrounding landscape. Now extinct, Capulin's a great place to explore geologic history, go for a hike, bring a picnic, or take a tour.
- Raton's Downtown is a Registered Historic District, with 95 significant buildings still standing. Stop by the Raton Museum or Visitor's Center for an official historic downtown walking tour map, or check out the list of buildings on Wikipedia.
- In the heart of Downtown, Raton's Shuler Theater is celebrating its 95th Anniversary! Tours are available by reservation - just call 575-445-4746 to make an appointment.
