City Commission Appoints New City Commissioner
On Tuesday January 27, 2010 Judge Roy Manfredi swore in new in term City Commissioner Charles Starkovich. Starkovich was selected by the city commission to fill the vacant District 2 position left open with the resignation of Tresa Kegan.
Starkovich who’s family immigrated to America in 1902 from Mrkopaij, Croatia and family roots in Raton date back to 1905. His great grandfather owned and ran “Star Grocery”, in Raton.
Commissioner Starkovich is a graduate of McNeese State University, 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. His 32 years of work experience with the Federal Agency known as the USDA has taken him from Louisiana, Colorado and New Mexico.
Commissioner Charles J. Starkovich has been married to his wife Katy for 32 years. They moved and retired to Raton in July 2008. Since moving to Raton he has served on the Advisory Board of the Raton Public Service.
The new Commissioner goal for the next 19 months is to “Strive for consensus on issues. My knowledge and experiences of government in general will aid in that process as we deliberate our future. I will work diligently in that regard.”
