"Bear Buffet" Closing
The City of Raton, in cooperation with the State of New Mexico’s Department of Game and Fish, will be acquiring 50 new bear poof trash receptacles. Receptacles will vary in size and will begin to replace the current bear accessible dumpsters. It is anticipated that the new dumpsters will decrease the bear activity in town and reduce the amount of trash in the alleys and streets.

How to handle your trash: Take your trash out the day of your trash pick-up. Do not tie trash bags closed. This way bears cannot take the bag out of the dumpster and spread trash throughout your neighborhood. Instead, empty trash bags into the dumpster so that trash is loose inside. Please be sure to close the dumpster lid.
