City Hires Recreation Director

Many of us drive by and see the progress of the new Aquatic Center.  However, it is what cannot be seen that creates excitement about the new facility for the City of Raton.  We are pleased to announce the addition of Mr. Jared Chatterley as the new Recreation Director for the long awaited Aquatic Center. 

"I am exited about Jared joining the City of Raton team."  City Manager Pete Mileta, Jr. states.  "Jared understands the importance of recreation beyond Raton and for the entire region.  I am confident Raton will see our recreational facilities effectively used under his guidance.  His outstanding background in recreation is only enhanced by he and his wife's passion for Northeastern New Mexico.  Recreation is so much more than pools and ball fields and given this chance, I believe Jared is the right person to truly give the region affordable year-round recreational opportunities."

Mr. Chatterley was born in Utah and grew up in Florida.  He received his bachelors degree in Recreation Management from Brigham Young University.  He is married with 3 children and currently resides in Cimarron, New Mexico, but however, is making arrangements to relocate to Raton.  Jared says his personal goal  is "to provide and promote a diversity of well managed, wholesome, recreational activities along with well maintained facilities and well trained personnel to support them."

Jared is currently working out of an office at City Hall.  He is busy creating policies and procedures and job descriptions for the new Wellness Center.  His priority for this year is the opening of the Aquatic Center and "looks forward to the challenges in the coming years as we expand and enhance the recreation opportunities for the City of Raton."
