Election - March 6, 2012
The next regularly scheduled election for the City of Raton will be held on March 6, 2012
Offices up for Election
- District No. 2 - one Commissioner for a four-year term
- District No. 3 - one Commissioenr for a two-year term
- District No. 4 - one Commissioner for a four-year term
- District No. 5 - one Commissioner for a four-year term
Anyone wishing to run for office must file a Declaration of Candidacy with the Municipal Clerk on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For more information regarding becoming a candidate, please refer to the Candidate Packet.
Anyone wishing to run for office who missed the Candidate Filing Deadline may choose to file as a Write-In Candidate on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 with the Municipal Clerk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Register to Vote
Individuals wanting to vote in the Municipal Election must be registered with the Colfax County Clerk. Only those registered within the Municipal Boundaries are allowed to vote in the Municipal Election. Be sure the address the Colfax County Clerk has on file is current. In order to vote in the March 6th election voters must be registered no later than Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 5:00 p.m., at which time the Colfax County Clerk will close the registration books.
Absentee Voting
Qualified voters wanting to vote prior to election day on March 6, 2012 may request an application for an absentee ballot from the Office of the City Clerk at (575) 445-9451.
Absentee ballots will be mailed to voters, whose applications have been accepted beginning January 31, 2012 through March 2, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.
Completed ballots may be returned to the Office of the City Clerk until 7:00 p.m on March 2, 2010:
- by mail
- in person by the voter casting the ballot
- by an immedicate family member of the voter
- by a caregiver of the voter
Early voting on paper ballots by machine will be conducted in the Office of the City Clerk during regular business hours beginning at 8:00 a.m. on February 15, 2012 and continue through March 2, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
Election Day - Tuesday, March 6, 2012
Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.
The following locations are designated as polling places:
- Raton Convention Center, 901 S. 3rd Street, Raton NM. Preceints 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
- St. Patrick's - St. Joseph's Parish Hall, 104 Buena Vista, Raton NM. Precints 10, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22.
