Raton Public Service Power Outage
RPS has announced a planned power outage that affects all customers.

In order to complete the substation expansion, RPS will require an outage of the 69 KV tranmission line feeding the substation. This outage will affect all customers.
The outage will last apporximately three (3) hours beginning at 10:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010.
There are two purposes:
- to cut over the 69 line to a new pole and bring it into the new addition so we can energize the transformer there and
- to install a permanent fix for a temporary work done on Thursday, January 28, 2010 to restore service
RPS will also utilize the time to perform a load pick up test with Wartsila.
While there is never a good time for an outage, the problem on January 28th was a great indication of the risks of not having the second transformer energized. There is currently no redundancy. RPS is not planning any further outages in the foreseeable future.
RPS apologizes for any inconvenience this outage will cause and urge customers to make appropriate plans for this outage.
