The new Raton Recreation and Wellness Center is scheduled to begin construction in February, 2009.

Fighting child obesity and community health concerns is a primary goal of the Raton City Commission and has been since the city prioritized this project in 1998 when a focus on year round recreation was established. 

Located in Roundhouse Memorial Park the Raton Recreation and Wellness Center will be built by NM contractor Franken Construction.  As the centerpiece of the 104 acre park the Center should integrate well with the rest of the community.

Phase One

The first phase is scheduled to begin construction in early February 2009.  The Indoor Aquatic Center will be the first year-round pool to be operate in NE New Mexico and SE Colorado and should open within one year.   Combining recreation with lap swimming the pool will feature two slides and three 25-Meter lanes.

Phase Two

At over $8M the Molzen-Corbin designed  aquatic center is the first phase of 3 with plans to expand to include:

• 2 additional full court gyms
• an exercise concourse
• classrooms
• multipurpose rooms for various activities ranging from aerobics and dance to wrestling and weight lifting 
  

Phase Three

Phase 3 will bring an Olympic competition swimming and diving facility to the region.

Hours

• Lap Swim Monday - Friday 6am-8am, Noon-1pm, 5:30-7pm
• Adult Swim and Adult Exercise M-f 8am-10am
• Open Swim M-F 10am-Noon, 1pm-4:45pm, 5:30pm-7:15pm
• Open Swim Saturday 10am-Noon, 1pm-7pm
• Open Swim Sunday from 1pm-5pm
• The Raton Regional Aquatic Center is avaible for parties and private rentals on Sunday. For more information on parties call 575-445-4271.
