The EDP Advisory Committee meets the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm and the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm. Meetings take place at the NMHU-Raton site on the corner of Park Avenue and 1st Street. In order for this effort to be a success, we need the broadest possible input from Raton residents.
We welcome participants of all ages and backgrounds. However, to make sure that we have sufficient seating, we ask that you let us know if you plan to attend by emailing GrowRaton@RatonNM.US or by calling the facilitator, Paul Jenkins, at (575) 445-3130. That way we can send you out materials which the other participants have already received and bring you "up to speed."
The future of this city is in your hands. We are creating an EDP using specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely goals (SMART goals) and will produce an action-oriented implementation plan. Please join us in this vital effort.

Disc Golf in Raton!
Have an idea about getting a disc golf coarse set up in Raton. Disc golf is usually a free to the public activity, that will help kids and families to get outside and stay active. It can also help visitors to stop by, play and enjoy Raton. Disc golf is very popular in bigger cities, in fact Pueblo has the third oldest disc golf coarse in the state of Colorado.
The proposal: The disc golf coarse can be nine hole coarse, best location would probably be around the swimming pool walking trails and the Bonahoom Park area. Each disc golf "hole" net is a metal chain link post that cost an average of 100$ a piece. Plus setting up some tee off plates with signs and a map. The project shouldn't cost more than 1500$ in materials, not sure what permits might be required.
This would be a great addition to the horse shoe pits, and the swimming pool in that area for residents and visitors alike. Adding another available activity to do in Raton

It seems that city is neglecting its own laws and the homeowners and citizens are taking the blow where it hurts most, in the pocket book.
As per The Raton Code of Ordinances Title Xv; Land Usage, Chapter 151: Building Codes & Regulations states, “that these types of structures fall under defects, which ought to be deemed dangerous buildings.”
This is not being done and property owners are left with dwellings that unfit for habitation and have made areas of Raton vulnerable to criminal activity.
It is the duty of the City to look out for the safety and well being f its citizens and the City of Raton has exhausted all its excuses to make this situation a priority on our shopping list of items that need immediate attention.
I am requesting a citizen run advisory board be implemented to find solutions that are lawful and can be used to correct the problem with vacant or abandon homes in Raton. Thank You.

There needs to be a community survey where people can respond via social media, web sites, telecommunications, and paper surveys to find out how your citizens are doing and what ideas they have anonymously
Implement a program that deals with educating people about Raton, its history and our future. Are you from Raton or are you For Raton. If your from Raton your part of the old ways. If your from Raton you have some sort of tie to Raton and want to see it succeed.

The city ought to implement a program that offers citizens a phone number to an automated system where pot holes and other street problems can be reported. This will be information shared with county, city and state agencies so that these problems can be addressed as soon as they are reported.
Perhaps a work crew that is dedicated to pot hole and graffiti removal can be created so that workers know their primary scope of work and can not be bounced around through out departments.
